Myanmar History from Myanmar Perspectives, 2009 (November)
Annual Programme of SEAMEO CHAT
This year Annual Training programme of the Centre was conducted twice; one in February and the other in November. The ten-day programme in November conducted from 18th to 27th consisted of lectures and discussions conducted by prominent Myanmar scholars, and a seven-day trip to the historical sites of Bago, Mandalay, and Bagan. Participants were from Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam.
As Myanmar History from Myanmar perspectives programme is not only a study programme for regional and international participants but also a programme on the history and tradition of Southeast Asia for Myanmar academics through the cooperation of participants who give lectures and present papers on their countries' culture, tradition and history, the Programme in November was enlightened by the paper presentation by two participants, Mr. M.L. Sursawasdi Sooksawasdi from Thailand on Survival of Pāla Bengal Buddha Images and the Ariya in Lan Na: A study from Phra Buddha Sihing (the Lion type Buddha Image); and Mr. Vu Duc Liem from Vietnam on Early Myanmar Silver Coins and Funan Coins in Mainland Southeast Asian Markets in the First Millennium AD.
All the participants were happy to have comprehensive and fruitful deliberation, sharing of knowledge and experiences to improve the quality of education in the field of history and tradition
