Myanmar History from Myanmar Perspectives, the annual training programme of the Centre is the activity in line with the Framework Blueprint for the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community which will renew, revitalize and reinforce the historical, social and cultural links among the nations and peoples of Southeast Asia.
This year programme was successfully carried out from 18th to 27th February, 2009. A picture of Myanmar's past, its development, its mosaic of cultures and traditions, especially their strengths and weaknesses and ability to adapt in changing circumstances, as seen from the perspectives of the present community of scholars in the country have been put together in this programme.
The programme consisted of three-day lectures and discussions conducted by prominent Myanmar scholars, and a seven-day trip to historical sites of Bago, Mandalay, and Bagan. Lecture topics included: Overview of Myanmar History, Bagan: Buddhism, Mandalay: the Court and The City, Ancient Cities in Myanmar, Bagan: Art and Architecture, History of Yangon, and Hanthawaddy: Maritime Trade and Land Empire. The participants for this year programme are from Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, the Philippine and Thailand, who also had a chance to visit Shwedagon Pagoda and the National Museum before going for a fieldtrip to Bago, Bagan and Mandalay
