The 8th Governing Board Meeting of SEAMEO CHAT was held on 26-27 August 2009 at Myat Taw Win Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw. H.E. Dr. Chan Nyein, Minister for Education, Union of Myanmar gave an opening address at the Opening Ceremony of the Meeting on 26th August. The Address was followed by the Remarks of Mr. Noorhaizamdim, Deputy Director of SEAMEO Secretariat. The Opening Ceremony was attended by the Governing Board Members from Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, the Deputy Director and the Programme Officer I from SEAMEO Secretariat, the Acting Director and the Senior staff of SEAMEO CHAT. The Ceremony was also attended by the invited guests: the Ambassador of Vietnam Socialist Republic, the Charges d' Affaires from the Embassy of the Philippines, Principal of the Indonesian International School, the First Secretary from Brunei Darussalam Embassy, and directors-general of departments under the Ministry of Education. Seven Reports and two Working Papers were presented on the first day of the Meeting. After the first day Meeting, the Board Members paid homage to Upptasanti Pagoda and visited the water fountain garden, Thabyegon Roundabout, Lotus Roundabout, RazaThingaha Roundabout, Gems Museum and Junction Centre. They also viewed progress of the Hluttaw Building and the Government House. A dinner was hosted by H.E. Dr. Chan Nyein, Minister for Education, Union of Myanmar to the Board Members at the Thingaha Hotel at 7:00pm. The Closing Remarks were given by the Chairperson on the second day of the Meeting after the adoption of the proceedings. The Meeting concluded at 09:30 hour, and the Board Members left Nay Pyi Taw by air to Yangon at 12:00hour. |
